Shan~e~Punjab

The Indian dance is a gift oh God. She is colorful, vivid and loving tenderly, so plain and full of joy as there is not in the earth.

 For this I love her.
And I rejoice myself
In the hope and the joy in the eyes
And in the heart
Of this boys and girls
Of this children
That a day will be adults
E they will dancing
In wonderfull way
Before God

Teacher Bios (2013)
Shan-e-Punjab provides volunteer opportunities such as teaching and other roles to help build skills and confidence so it will help with future education, personal and career endeavours. As well for those teachers in high school hours volunteering go towards community credits for graduation. If it is within our budget an honorarium is provided. All teachers have a true passion for dance; the teacher then becomes a role model for someone younger, and by inspiring that one other person - then our work is done.
Three of our most skilled teams are the senior advanced team, the senior intermediate team and the co-ed advanced team. Please scroll down for information on our teachers.
The senior advanced team consists of males and females ranging from ages starting as young as 12, dependant upon skill and is a team unlike the other teams. At this level more independence is provided since many students on this team have built their talent over years and at this level it is time to test it- whether that be teaching choreography, putting music together, working on formations, testing leadership and/or taking on projects all in a team environment - with that said that also means taking initiative and thinking outside the box (it is like moving from high school into post secondary school particularly a university setting so in essence 'dance' at this level provides skills to also prepare you for your education). This team has many outstanding very rare opportunities accomplished under their belt - congratulations for 20 years of bringing cultural awareness through your passion to levels never done before.
The senior intermediate team consists of females and the age range is most times between 14-18. It is not as independent as the senior advanced and is high school based, however students at this level also begin to teach with partners, as well as take on initiatives such as planning the annual Halloween and Diwali parties. This team is known for the female traditional dance of Punjab, called Giddha, and has earned a lot of recognition for this form of dance - and the team makes Giddha so fun and enjoyable. Also issues relating to school are also discussed so that students learn the value of working in a team. This was the team that inspired Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration aka VIBC to host the first Junior Team Bhangra Competition in Surrey in 2007.
The co-ed advanced team consists of males and females ranging in ages from 14-18 and all these members are teachers. This group was developed through two teachers in particular Raveena Moor and Angela Bamra in 2006, and has been running strong since, and is an explosion of colour and energetic Bhangra and is always a popular hit at our annual youth cultural showcases celebrating Visakhi.
