Who is of God hears God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
And they answered, the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
Jesus answered, I have not a devil, but I honor my Father, and ye do dishonor me.
I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
Verily, verily I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
They said therefore to him, the Jews: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham died and the prophets, and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste death.
John 8:47-52
- You have a demon!
I wonder the shamelessness of a religious looking into the eyes of Christ and spewing a sentence like this.
- You have a demon!
For the religious Jew a man would speak like crazy if it were dominated by evil, or by an unclean spirit.
One would suffice.
Note that in the text the word "devil" is in the single form.
The demons, according to a former classification, growing in power.
A joint operation of these "spirits" had not yet been imagined.
Soon, it would be sufficient, in their demonology, only the presence of a powerful demon, to make a man stay in a deplorable state.
If a man wanted to offend someone, at that time in Israel,
this would be the ultimate offense.
There were various levels of insults (the art of insult is an ancient science).
For Jews the penultimate level would nominate someone of "foreigner".
In literature and in the synagogues, in the teachings of the rabbis, of the Pharisees and of scribes of the time, the alien was so hated, so hated, that be designated as such was almost the ultimate offense.
Among the foreigners there was a special group, object of the most undignified jokes:
The Samaritans.
The Samaritans occupied a prominent position in the national hatred to foreigners, simply because one day they have belonged to the Jewish people. About a thousand years before they lost their identity to marry women of other people mingling (the chosen people) with the hated foreigners.
Centuries before this event mentioned in the gospel, ten of the twelve tribes belonged to the northern kingdom has lost a war against the Assyrians. (The nation of Israel were divided by an internal war)
The Assyrians had destroyed their cities. Were enslaved and sold to various nations. The survivors and those who made it back, decades later, formed a group that was rejected by his brothers, giving rise to the Samaritan people.
The Samaritans were despised even more than the rest of the pagan world.
Be so termed, Samaritan, for a Jew with proven descent, was the last level of insult. This are the ultimate insult.
In this passage from the Gospel of John, the Jews, driven by a hatred outsized, exalted the art of "to curse" to a level of excellence.
When joined the term "Samaritan" with "demon".
They nominate Jesus of a samaritan possessed.
- You're not only a foreigner pagan (consequently) oblivious to the promises, a descendant of a race corrupted by intermarriage!
- You're all that and more! You are far from God and gripped by the power of a demon! What you say is inspired by a demon, alien cursed!
Yet every word spoken by Jesus have a goal staggering.
This speech in particular is one of the most spectacular moments of the Lord's ministry.
A growing movement as a musical piece. Jesus standing right next to the treasure room (subtly near the treasure room) would declare the thing MOST VALUABLE IN THE UNIVERSE.
Who he is.
Is this simply one of the greatest mysteries of the universe.
What he says here in this place, front of your eyes angry and front of hateful of compatriots of a nation that rejects so bitter, full of unbelief, is not estimable!
The value of your declaration can not be measured or quantified!
And as closer is Jesus of the essence of his speech, more hatred for him will be manifest.
There is no gentle way to explain the reality to their opponents
because they reject it in a way so absurd.
The truth is painful.
A human being, in rejecting his voice, rejects God's voice.
Who despise what he says,
despises also a mission larger than life.
Rejects an inescapable reality.
Deceives himself who believes that Jesus is the brainchild religious.
Deceives himself who imagines that despite being a historical person, Jesus was not mistaken about what he was or what he represented.
- You have a demon!
No. He has not.
His words and your tremendous consciousness of himself came not from any external influences. And nor of any internal influences.
He not moved by schizophrenia or by madness, He is not inspired by megalomania or by anything else.
He had no demon.
There isn´t spiritual or psychological autonomous entity that corrupted to him.
And if he had no such thing, if Jesus is not a scam and not fake, whoever rejects his voice will surely be hearing a false claim.
- You have a demon!
No. He has not.
What he lives and was filled and was screaming in his soul was not the sound of the voice of an unclean spirit.
Jesus was full and overflowing with God.
It was the Holy Spirit which inspired him unlimitedly showed him every letter, every word, every pitch accent, each of the expressions that sprouted from the mouth of Jesus.
At all times.
What Christ was, God dwelt.
And God was present in Christ at that time.
Although Jesus had not demons, the group that hated him and rejected him with all its forces, was certainly full of them.
Every word of this discourse of Christ (started a bit earlier) will rise to the sublime moment.
Jesus faced their hatred gradually firming its position, covering the origins of the faith they had, embracing the beginning of their beliefs, going to the time of his election, at the beginning of their identity as a nation.
Beneath his words there was the echo of Universality foreshadowed and denied by their religion. Denied by xenophobia (dislike foreign), covert racism and perpetuated by social segregation.
When God calls Abraham he is summons as a missionary from which all nations would be blessed.
What is Granted to his descendants not a religion exclusive, once a priestly vocation and a treasure that belonged to all mankind.
Stifled by tradition, the message that belonged to humanity out distorted.
Outside reinterpreted by a circle of scholars who claimed for himself an authority that has ever possessed,
Circle that transformed prophecies belonging to the human being, a heritage which access was only allowed a group of "initiates."
To have access, they need comply, rule by rule of conduct manuals and manuals laws created by few interpreters employed.
And for many years thousands of conditions were imposed to the Jews obtain promises of life. And the essence of God's revelation became increasingly distant from the common man. Or of anyone man.
They lost God within his own revelation.
Then Jesus will announce the unthinkable, announce what they could no longer understand, because they lost the life in interpretations empty, replacing the real love by prejudice:
55 And ye have not known him, but I know him. And if I say I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him and keep his word.
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it and was glad.
57 They said therefore to him, the Jews are not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so withdrew.
By denying to Jesus the jews forswore also the divine plan for their lifes.
Also rejected the high calling to which Abraham was called.
Vocation that Jesus understood.
And what a memory for Christ, for those who hear, is however, an aberration.
Jesus remembers the smile and the joy of Abraham when he understood the reason of divine revelation and reason to be called of the ancient city of Ur of the Chaldeans.
The Spirit of God revealed to his heart the mystery of preaching and proclamation of the gospel and he, Abraham, envisioned the time when his descendant, the beloved of God, would announce and bless all nations.
A prophecy that was not written and which the Jews never had access.
Abraham saw the days of the ministry and of the mystery of Christ.
And Jesus, who was there, along with Abraham, recalls a fact that he lived, but absolutely unknown to the greatest interpreters of Jewish law. Simply because such a vision and such a meeting had not been written. Does not have such this vision in the Hebrew scriptures.
There is a hidden reason for Jesus to declare them something they have never come to know.
At the time of Christ the religion had become a tangled web of mysteries. Aside thousands of rules what Jesus called tradition, plus the Law and the prophets (as it was called texts considered sacred).
There were also books of mystical knowledge and revelations that only a few had access.
Authors cite at least 70 books of "revelation" divine, Jewish apocalyptic literature, new visions of Ezekiel and many others, full of visions and revelations considered divine. Such books were cited and studied in closed circles, where only a select group of priests and scribes had access.
Thousands of revelations that were never granted by God and numerous spiritual lies were the basis of his ramblings about what they named of "higher knowledge of God."
It was common to them create legends about Biblical characters and cite situations that were never experienced by the characters.
Now, however, Jesus shows them a real fact and witnessed personally, which they never had access.
A supernatural experience that pointed to a fantastic thing.
This is the great moment of the gospel.
Yes. They understand what was said. Perfectly.
Jesus declares them their ETERNITY.
And they understand that. And a little further. The word that Jesus uses is (I AM)
Is one of the Greek meanings of the Hebrew tetragramma that identified the name that God revealed himself to Moses.
58 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
In one sentence Jesus breaks with its claims of an exclusive religion based on revelations imagined, showing them that have no relationship with a father who did not hear or they believe, or experienced how a father, living a doctrine that leads to death, in contrast a word which I promised LIFE ..
And in doing so reveals to them that this was what preceded the divine election of Abraham.
Previous to law Jesus claims the PROPHECY.
The Law was only the continuity of revelation started in Abraham.
The Law was given 430 years after Abraham, through Moses, his descendant to guide and guard the identity of the people of Abraham.
In the time of the giving of the Law, God reminds them what he had said to Abram, when he warns that was the God of Abraham and of his son Jacob and of his grandson Isaac.
Moses symbolized the delivery of LAW (The Ten Commandments, the priesthood, etc.) in a certain way.
The most provocative scene of revelation of LAW is the Moses' encounter with God on Mount Sinai. After a conversation that is your call to the office of prophet, Moses asks God:
- When I ask your name, and when my brothers questioning who's who sent us? What I'm going to answer?
God answers:
- You will say that I am what I am (I am the one who is) sent you.
(When Jesus repeats it, is like saying I AM the first time on Mount Sinai)
At that moment Jesus establishes his IDENTITY and your identity makes him greater, above Moses and above Abraham.
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it and was glad.
And what they did not know is just what declares them as they are DIFFERENT of that Jesus.
They regarded Abraham as a spiritual father
But he rejoiced with Christ! He JUMPED for joy when it was revealed in a vision. Abraham leaped for joy with the news that they heard it, they were full of wrath.
They were there at the time of the fulfillment of the prophecy given to his spiritual father and instead of feeling joy ...
... Felting disgusted.
-You have a demon!
And picked up stones to kill him! Jesus escapes!
Not that needed... if a stone had hit on the Lord ...
I think Sodom and Gomorrah would look a fireworks exploding in a scout camp, compared to what would occur ...
But the scene, however, is awkward.
A noisy chase starts from inside the temple rebuilt by Herod and Jesus mingles with the crowd! People fall pushed!
Everywhere there are people taken by outsized rage causing a rebellion. And chase after Jesus which runs too! Jesus departs from mingling with the crowd of 5,000 people who are there because of the holidays.
And disappears into the crowd, leaving them screaming hate all afternoon ...
When in the New Creation, sitting in middle the angels, in the mansions of the Father, someone please remind me to request that this scene is put in a huge screen.
Because it will be worth seeing her again.

Jesus respondeu: Eu não tenho demônio, antes honro a meu Pai, e vós me desonrais.

A verdade é dolorosa.
